The hotel is a “one of a kind”. Located in the historic part of Quito in a former large colonial home. The ornamental paintings on all the walls create an indoor garden atmosphere. Our room was quite large with a comfortable king size bed. The washroom is well appointed. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. Eggs are made to order. The artisanal bread was a nice touch. There is no elevator, so ask for a room on a lower floor if you have mobility challenges or think the high altitude might make a little tricky to climb too many stairs. The location is close enough to walk to many of the main attractions in the old town. We only had breakfast at the hotel so we can’t comment on their dinner. There’s an excellent restaurant just next door and in the other direction, about a minute away are several family run restaurants that are worth trying We can’t emphasize enough how attentive, kind and helpful the staff are at this hotel. Staying at La Casona was a terrific part of our Quito experience.

Staff was great, but spoke almost no English. The room was cold, with no temperature control. On my second day the front desk clerk found a portable heater for me. The worst thing was that the breakfast room and restaurant was on the fourth level and was only accessible via the elevator. The staircase between level two and four was blocked off so that there was no emergency exit and no way down from the restaurant if there was a power interruption–a definite safety hazard!
